Girls Get Equal (GGE) Project

COLEIN AID, with support from Plan International Uganda, is currently implementing a 4-year Girls Get Equal (GGE) Norad project aimed at ending Child Early and Forced Marriages (CEFM). The project targets children (0-18 years), young people (18-24 years), community leaders, cultural and religious leaders, and the broader community, working to change harmful social and cultural norms. The goal is to re-enroll children in school and ensure their protection from early and forced marriages.

Key Activities:

Monthly community Barazas on ending CEFM, SRHR, and child neglect.
Monthly outreach sessions addressing harmful cultural norms.
Case management for addressing child abuse cases.
Quarterly review meetings for Child Protection Committees (CPCs).
Regular dialogue meetings with Parish Youth Associations (PYAs) and Champion of Change youth groups.
Quarterly Civil Society Organisation coordination meetings to enhance advocacy.

Achievements:

Formed 28 groups of children and youth (30 members per group).
840 youth supported with microfinance and VSLA mentorship.
Trained 840 youth on Champion of Change methodologies.
Facilitated over 100 cases of child abuse through collaboration with the Police and CDOs.
14 parishes sensitized on case referral pathways and roles in ending CEFM.
Built the capacity of 135 Child Protection Committees on safeguarding.
Supported the formation of Zombo District NGO Forum through CSO logistical support.
Established 24 VSLA groups for youths aged 12-24 (out of school).
